Antur Waunfawr

The establishment of Antur Waunfawr in 1984 stemmed from the vision of R. Gwynn Davies, and the strong support he received from the people of the Waunfawr area. By now, it is a leading social enterprise providing employment and training opportunities for people with learning disabilities in their own community.

35 years ago, a charitable company such as Antur Waunfawr, which offered people with learning difficulties proper work with a purpose to it, was seen as pioneering. Prior to that, people received care and work in special centres. Antur Waunfawr demonstrated that, by giving them the chance of working in the community, and thus serving the community, they would be accepted as equal citizens.

Over the years, the company has developed, and now employs more than 100 staff and supports over 65 adults with learning difficulties.

Roedd sefydlu Antur Waunfawr yn 1984 yn deillio o weledigaeth R. Gwynn Davies, a’r gefnogaeth gref a gafodd gan bobl ardal Waunfawr. Erbyn hyn, mae’n fenter gymdeithasol arloesol sy’n darparu cyfleoedd cyflogaeth a hyfforddiant i bobl ag anableddau dysgu yn eu cymunedau eu hunain.

Antur Waunfawr aims to:

• Provide meaningful work and activity and opportunities for progressive training in an environment supportive of under-privileged individuals and individuals with disabilities.
• Provide high standard housing and offer support and respect to encourage individuals to live full and independent lives as tenants.
• Provide sustainable plans and professional services for reusing and recycling in north Wales in cooperation with statutory and private organisations.
• Develop models of person-centred planning and promote Active Support in the individuals’ personal plans, and ensuring
that the process continues throughout Antur’s activities and work.
• Promote the concept of integration and healthy living in all aspects of services and activities in order to address good health, well-being and happiness which meets the individuals’ needs.
• Provide accessible facilities for visitors, customers and the local community, and promote interest and sustainable sources of income from our activities and sites.
• Develop sustainable activities that are compatible with the needs of the Waunfawr and Caernarfon area and support the wider community, and protect the environment.
• Form a new well-being centre and hub for our cycling business in Porth yr Aur, Caernarfon.
• Be an exceptional and progressive employer, and promote the local language, culture and economy.

Nod Antur Waunfawr yw:

• Darparu gweithgarwch a gwaith ystyrlon, yn ogystal â chyfleoedd hyfforddi blaengar mewn amgylchedd sy’n cefnogi unigolion dan anfantais ac unigolion ag anableddau.
• Darparu tai o safon uchel a chynnig cefnogaeth a pharch i annog unigolion i fyw bywydau llawn ac annibynnol fel tenantiaid.
